Appointment of Klaus Hommels as Chair of the NATO Innovation Fund

The first multi-sovereign venture fund was announced last year following an agreement at the Madrid Summit by 22 member states.

The fund has earmarked 1 billion euros to invest in early-stage start-ups and venture capital funds that are working on dual-use emerging technologies of priority to NATO. These technologies include AI, big-data processing, quantum computing, biotechnology, novel materials, energy, propulsion, and space.

The fund will assist NATO in preserving its technological advantage and cementing its role as a global leader in technological innovation. This appointment reinforces Lakestar's vision to bolster innovation and secure technological sovereignty in Europe, a vision Klaus has championed for a long time. His appointment will not alter Lakestar’s investment approach and sector theses.

“As the importance of technology in all parts of our lives increases so does the need for digital and technology sovereignty. The NIF is the first multi-sovereign venture capital fund that will support emerging technologies and drive much needed innovation in areas touching the Alliance's objectives. I am humbled to be part of this important initiative whilst continuing to support brilliant founders.”
